Summer 2021 — Week Seven
There was something sexy in the air this Monday at the Summer Pétanque League. The lighting was just right as the smooth rhythms of Marvin Gaye, Gregory Isaacs, and Sade filled the courtyard. This could mean only one thing. Singles night! An opportunity for all of our leaguers to stand on their own two feet and see how much they’ve improved over the past several weeks. At some point in every player’s pétanque career, one has to wonder: “Just how good am I without Ernesto by my side?!” Singles night, baby! Mano y Mano, tête á tête…no one to blame but yourself!
The action was fierce throughout the evening but it was apparent from round one that The Incrediboules had something to prove. Like CJ on F-Boy Island they were taking no shit and tearing through any lame-ass poser set before them. Coaches Ernesto and Dana led the way, each going undefeated on the evening at 3-0 and 2-0 respectively. All the hard work and extra practice has paid off for the rookies, especially for Steve and Adrian who likewise were unbeaten for the evening and sit atop the leaderboard for Rookie of the Year. It was a team victory with every member contributing to a solid 13 victories for the evening, translating into a 6-3-1 performance after weighted adjustments. They are just 4 games back in the standings with plenty of time to close the gap and find themselves League Champions for the season!

Some pretty raucous Summer thunderstorms put the kibosh on our Tuesday team challenges this week. Despite the rain, we had a pretty good turnout for a nice hang at the club. Popular topics of conversation: 1. When will the indoor pétanque bar be finished? (Hopefully, soon. We can’t F-ing wait!) 2. What is the proper way to hold a pétanque ball in one’s hand? (Ask Jim and Ern who seemed to be on this topic for a while!) 3. Do taller or shorter players have a pétanque advantage? (LOL, tall guys always looking for an excuse…) 4. What is the literal definition of a bizness partner? (If you don’t know, now you know!)
