We’ve been waiting all winter for this and the first night of our Spring Pétanque League did not disappoint. The energy was palpable as our squads arrived, met the coaches, and took to the courts for some practice games

Spirits were riding high and everyone had settled in for an evening of casual pétanque and camaraderie. But the vibe quickly changed once it was announced that the first competitive matches would indeed be played this evening. Our first triplets assembled for some great games and a taste of the road ahead. Gauntlets were thrown, rivalries were born, and each squad took a first step on the journey to pétanque glory.

But we have only scratched the surface and with so many matches left to play, the championship is there for the taking. If last season is any indication, it will all come down to this year’s class of rookies. Who can best the learning curve to start pointing like a pro and shooting under pressure? Of course, a lot too is riding on the returning league members, the ‘intermedios’ and CITs. Will their off-season training regimen pay off? Will they have what it take to guide the rookies to greatness? Only time will tell…
