Summer 2021 — Week Three
Weather Report (Monday @ 3PM): Oh yeah, there’s gonna be some serious T-storms tonight! You should totes cancel that league thing. What the heck is pay-tonk anyway?
Aaron & Dana: It’s this really great game, kind of like bocce but way more fun. Nevermind. You’re sure it’s gonna rain tonight?
Weather Report (Monday @ 4PM): 100% (That’s like a mathematical certainty)
Aaron & Dana: Shoot, well, I guess we better cancel the league then. Bummer. These Monday night folks are chomping at the bit…
Weather Report (Monday @ 5PM): Did I say 100%? I meant 62%. But it’s still like a really good chance, more likely than not.
Aaron & Dana: Hmm, okay. Well, it does look pretty cloudy out there.
Weather Report (Monday @ 6PM): Cloudy, yes. Definitely. There is a 100% chance it will be a bit cloudy. But it might not rain. Yeah, probably not gonna rain tonight.
Aaron & Dana: Wait, what? A few hours ago you said there was 100% chance of rain. You said it was a mathematical certainty!
Weather Report (Monday @ 7PM): Nope, definitely not gonna rain today. That’s ridiculous! Actually, looks like it’s gonna be some of the best weather we’ve had in a while. A bit cloudy but cool and breezy, comfortable. Perfect day to catch up with some friends, maybe toss some boules!
Aaron & Dana: FML. Let’s go to Judy’s.

After a limited week of Splétanque, the Tuesday Night Summer League was back in effect and the energy was AMAZING! Good weather, great friends, and some solid pétanque!
This week 2Boule2Deep was trying to take it 2 the returning champs Panchito who held a slim lead in the standings at the beginning of the night. There was nearly a sweep in the first frame but Aaron and Jeff came back from a huge deficit to steal a win from a shell-shocked Hugue and Woody. In the second frame, Panchito dropped the hammer as Kasia, Sophie, and Ian battled hard for the V and rookie sensations Taylor and Jeff pulled off a solid win for the sweep. it looked as though 2B2D was going to return the favor in the third on the strength of standout performances from Jess H., Jess M, and Brendan, but in the final hour a win turned into a tie making a solid night for Panchito. Despite losing the points race, they went 3-2-1 for the evening and keeping their spot atop the leaderboard.
On the other side of the courts, Team Too was shorthanded but undeterred as they faced off against a new, seemingly less dangerous, variant of Carreau-No-Virus. Ernesto and the gang were all smiles as usual but got right down to business. Perhaps after so many months of ridicule in these very pages, they had simply had enough. Perhaps the team chemistry is starting to pay some major dividends. Whatever the case may be, this team is no longer simply having a good time…they are kicking ass and making it look easy. Everyone pitched in this time around with Ernesto and Derek doing some serious heavy lifting throughout the evening. But the star of the show, lonely at the top of the leaderboard with nary a loss nor a tie, was breakout sensation Nina, who seems to hate losing with the intensity of a thousand suns. She went 3-0 for the evening with a point differential of 38-6 and added insult to injury with a final round Fanny over a dejected C-N-V squad. The team as a whole went 4-2-0 landing them just a hair behind Panchito in the standings with tons of momentum going their way. For their part, C-N-V slides into uncharted waters at the very bottom of the barrel and one wonders if they’ll be able to turn it around next week against a surging 2Deep Crew?
**Special shout out to some of our league members who competed in the first annual La Brooklynaise Open Pétanque Tournament this past Sunday. Our very own Eric (2B2D), Franck (2B2D), and Rafik (CNV) took home the top prize for the day, going undefeated for the day and besting a tough team in the finals. Kate (CNV) was part of that tough second place team, steamrolling every team in their way until the finals. And, League Sickos Garrison (formerly PTO), Woody (2B2D) and Paul (TW) played with poise and pizzazz to pick up second prize in the Consolante, no mean feat in a large field of solid contenders. Congrats to the Carreau Club home team!! And thanks everyone who came out and made it such a special day!!!
